Thanks to modern time limits, endgame knowledge is more important than ever. There is hardly time to produce new insight over the board. Either you know a thing or not. Rook endings are the most important endings by a wide margin. They are three times as frequent as the number 2, which is “bishop against knight”.

Unfortunately, some chess friends don’t feel inclined to study the endgame independently, as it may appear too dry for them. In order to provide a little support, I offer online training for interested groups.

Course 1: Rook and Pawn versus Rook

This is the most important category of rook endings. Every serious chess player ought to know the most elementary positions and maneuvers.

Course 2: Rook versus 1 or 2 Pawns

Very often, such constellations arise from rook endings, where the weaker side has to sacrifice his rook for a passed pawn.

Course 4: Complex Rook Endings
