In addition to the areas of weak pawns and weak squares, pawn mobility is another important criterion in the evaluation and correct treatment of pawn structures. It is a broad field and must therefore be subdivided into several areas, of which is one pawn majorities. Positions with different pawn majorities are among the most exciting of all, as there is a clear asymmetry here. Right from the start there are at least four plans in play, which makes the position challenging. Each side has an offensive plan (activating the majority) and a defensive plan (inhibiting the opposing majority). The seminar covers the following topics:

  • Space advantage
  • Attack
  • Mobilization by sacrifice
  • Inhibition
  • Inhibition by sacrifice
  • Pawn break
  • Minority attack
  • Passed pawn formation
  • The protected passed pawn
  • The outside passed pawn
  • Typical endgames
